Planning an EV road trip from Bangalore to Ooty? The raw distance is manageable, but the real decision is where you finish your last meaningful top-up before the climb.
This route gets much easier if you think in three phases: Bangalore to Mysore, Mysore to Gundlupet, and the final mountain ascent into Ooty.
Phase 1: Bangalore to Mysore
- Hotel Kadamba (Zeon):
25kW DCin Maddur for a light breakfast stop. - Mall of Mysuru (Zeon):
25kW DCcity top-up before you head toward the hills.
Phase 2: Gundlupet Safety Net
- Vana Vihar (Tata Power):
60kW DCnear Bandipur. Best last serious stop before the climb. - MC Resort (Statiq): reliable backup if the primary is occupied or down.
Phase 3: Destination Charging in Ooty
- Savoy Ooty (Tata Power):
50kW DCat the Taj property. - Gem Park (Zeon): slower but useful destination top-up in town.
Climb Reality Check
The final stretch to Ooty is where range anxiety spikes because altitude gain hits hard. The route climbs from roughly 900m near Bangalore to more than 2,200m in Ooty, so the dashboard estimate will fall faster than expected on the ascent.
The good news: the descent pays some of that back with regen, especially if traffic is moving and you can modulate speed cleanly.
If you’ve done this route recently, where did you make your last top-up before the climb? Any newer high-confidence stops around Gundlupet or Ooty worth adding?
